Ruthmarie's Blog: Fotos on the Fly – NYC Skyline from Hudson Harbor – Tarrytown NY

Fotos on the Fly – NYC Skyline from Hudson Harbor – Tarrytown NY

One of the most exciting new construction developments is Hudson Harbor – Tarrytown NY.   I’m not normally a big fan of modern architecture, but I have to say that I really love the construction of this complex with its use of fieldstone and old wood beams.  They made it look like Stone Barns which is quite an accomplishment.  But what really makes its special are the views.

So after we saw the development, I went for a walk on the RiverWalk that runs right behind the complex.  (The complex – now in Phase II is right on the river.) and took some photos.  Basically I started with a wide-angle lens and moved to  a tele photo.

The first picture is of the Tappan Zee Bridge.  The Manhattan skyline can be faintly seen under the bridge with the wide angle. The second picture was with a zoom lens – it gives you a perspective of where the Manhattan skyline is in relation to the TZ bridge.  The final was when I zoomed in on the skyline itself.  I’ve taken photos from this perspective before, but it was such a clear – if blustery  day, that the skyline really “popped” particularly with the color of the sky.

Hope you enjoy these – they were fun to take.

Ruthmarie,  Nice photos for sure.  I love the picture of the bridge with the skyline.  One day I want to visit New York.  I like your profile picture, are those Sheba Inus?  I have a white one and he is such a great dog. My dog looks just like your profile picture.  Best to you in 2012.

Ruthmarie, I guess we have something in common!  Our last names ha ha ha!  I have a Japanese client who was exercising by doing a walk through the bottom mall of the WTC prior to one of the towers getting hit.  He told me that the smoke was so thick that he thought a few times of jumping into the Hudson because he thought the world was coming to an end, but then he began to crawl to safety and decided against jumping in.

Hi Debbie - Are you still local?  When are you leaving?  Sounds like a great trip.  These came out well because of the sky.  I've done these before, but the background was always too similar to the skyline.

Hi Joan - The shot that you like and everyone seems to like, gives the perspective of where NYC is with respect to Tarrytown. Its about 35 minutes by train to midtown Manhattan.  There area a few express trains in the morning and evening peaks that get you there in about 27minutes. Tarrytown is an express stop so that's why they get that advantage.

Hi Ronald - Glad you like them.

Hi Bruce - He was lucky that he got out. Many people under there died.  There was the one guy who was able to use his cell phone to tell people where he was.  But the rest of that rescue was grim.

Hi Cheryl - You are probably too far from NYC to see the skyline - what about DC?

Hi Andre - Its tough to take a bad picture of the Hudson River, that's for sure!  But thank you.  The sky was just right for the shot.  I hadn't had that advantage before.

Hi Ruthmarie, these are wonderful.  As your weather changes in the seasons, if you can return to the same location these would be awesome again in each season. Good Job!

Ruthmarie - I love the way the skyline is framed by the bridge in the second photo

Thanks Kristen,  The bridge is quite a landmark.  The sky had a terrific color to contrast with the skyline.

Hi William, I've taken photos here before.  But never was th skyline so clear.  In the summer, you can get a good picture if it isn't too hazy.   But doing one every season would be great.

Hi Kathy - That seems to be everyone's favorite.  I guess my initial idea was to show the general  background and then focus in on NYC.

Hi Ruthmarie. I like your profile picture. Those two white dogs look so cute. The photos that you shared are very facinating too. Makes me appreciate the skyline even more. Nice idea zooming    the camera to take three photos for comparison.  You take good pictures. Perfect angle..Great lighting..What more can I say..You really are an artist. A very good one too. Thanks for sharing. Keep it up.
